Queen’s Speech: planning reforms and infrastructure investment pledged

The government committed itself to investing in infrastructure and improving connectivity in the Queen’s Speech earlier this week.

A commitment to investing in national infrastructure and transforming connectivity by rail and bus was highlighted in Tuesday’s speech, with the High Speed Rail (Crewe-Manchester) Bill proposal set to be taken forward.

Transport for the North acting chief executive Tim Wood welcomed the commitment to infrastructure improvement, but said the pledge must be followed by action. “We now need to see commitment to these aims in the upcoming Integrated Rail Plan, including backing the full HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail networks,” he said.
