Highways England to accelerate more road schemes under Project Speed

More Highways England roads schemes are likely to follow the A66 Transpennine route’s acceleration as part of the Project Speed initiative, according to Highways England project director David Haimes.

“The Project Speed principles of building roads quicker and faster but also considering health and safety and social capita is very much something we are reviewing on schemes,” he said.

The Spending Review in Autumn 2020 confirmed additional funding in RIS2 for the accelerated work on the A66.

The scheme includes the construction of a new bypass, dualling along existing sections of road and major junction improvements.
