Transport North East is pushing to progress the development of the £700M South of Tyne and Wearside Loop, which would take the Tyne and Wear Metro to Washington – one of the largest towns in the country without a train station.
Early engineering feasibility forecasting work for the project is in the final stages and the North East Joint Transport Committee will meet next week to discuss whether to move forward with a strategic outline business case.
