£30bn rail electrification plan blocked by Treasury

A £30bn plan to electrify Britain’s railways has reportedly been held up by Treasury.

The Telegraph has reported that the Treasury has blocked Network Rail’s recommendations to accelerate electrification of the country’s railways, set out within the Traction Decarbonisation Network Strategy (TDNS).

The plans were drawn up nearly 18 months ago, but have reportedly been shelved due to cost concerns.
